Western Exterminator Co., the 6th largest pest management company in the United States, has kept detailed records of pesticide usage for the last 20 years. Analysis of the total pounds of active ingredient applied in 1986, 1990, 1996, and 2002 illustrate the change in pesticide active ingredient class, and amount of active ingredient applied. These changes took place as Western Exterminator Co. phased out the use of organophosphate insecticides in the 1990’s, and replaced them with pyrethroids and other IPM tools, such as insecticide baits, insect growth regulators and inorganic dusts.
