Total evidence phylogeny of the new world Polistes (Hymenoptera: Vespidae; Polistinae)

A total evidence phylogeny of Aphanalopterus, the New World subgenus of Polistes, is presented. Traditional interpretations of the phylogeny of the subgeneric groups of Polistes is addressed. Behavioral traits for which Polistes has served as a model are interpreted in a cladistic framework.
