Ann H. Fritz, Department of Biological Sciences, Eastern Illinois University, Department of Biological Sciences, 600 Lincoln Ave, Charleston, IL

The high frequency of unsuccessful or limited sperm storage in first time matings of some Tephritid fruit flies and other insects is considered in relation to sexual selection theory. Incompatibilities, sexual naiveté, and male/female conflicts over reproductive outcomes are evaluated.

Species 1: Diptera Tephritidae Anastrepha suspensa (Caribbean fruit fly)
Keywords: mating behavior, sperm storage
