An expert system was developed to aid wheat producers and agri-business professionals in managing greenbugs and other cereal aphids in winter wheat. The system has 4 components. Each component is expandable as new research-based information becomes available. One component helps the user learn about identification and biology of the common cereal aphids found in winter wheat. Another is designed to help identify natural enemies and understand their role in aphid management. A third consists of a threshold calculator that allows the user to calculate treatment thresholds and print a Glance n' Go presence/absence sequential sampling form that is tailored to inputs provided by the user. The model that calculates the treatment threshold considers geographic location, time of year, control costs and expected price of the wheat when determining the threshold. A fourth component helps users select insecticides based upon various label characteristics.

This expert system resides on the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology website at http://entoplp.okstate.edu/greenbug/index.htm. The expert system, and Glance n' Go sequential sampling program are currently being evaluated for efficiency and grower acceptance.
