Genetics of Thrips tabaci: Implications for TSWV transmission

Juan Carlos Cabrera and George Kennedy. North Carolina State University, Department of Entomology, Raleigh, NC

Thrips tabaci individuals were collected from North Carolina and New York, reared in the laboratory, and tested for TSWV transmission. Two virus isolates were studied, Parker and RG2. One group from New York was able to transmit efficiently both isolates and another from North Carolina did not transmit any isolate. Crossings between both groups were conducted, and the resulting offspring tested for transmission. The importance of these results in our understanding of vector genetics will be discussed.

Species 1: Thysanoptera Thripidae Thrips tabaci (Onion thrips)
Keywords: TSWV, Vector genetics
