Genus Syntermes (Termitidae:Nasutitermitinae) in Venezuela

Solange Issa and Dayaleth Alfonzo. Simón Bolívar University, Departamento de Biología de Organismos, Universidad Simón Bolívar, Apdo. 89000, Caracas, Dtto. Federal, Venezuela

The genus is a Neotropical Nasutitermitinae that is found at forest and savannas of South America. We found two different species on Parupa at the Gran Sabana (Bolivar state at south of Venezuela). These species have a mound nest and the spatial distribution of the nest is related with the soil conditions. Their feeding behavior as grass-litter forager and the way they collect and store the food on the superficial chambers of the nest, seems to be related with rainy-dry seasons present on the area.

Species 1: Isoptera Termitidae Syntermes
