In October 2001, introductory letters were mailed to over 20,000 pest control companies throughout the U.S., including Hawaii, asking for participation in the first national termite survey in over 35 years. Individuals willing to collect termites from their city/state were mailed collecting packets containing vials, return envelopes, aspirators, and general instructions. As of June 1, 2003, over 1,400 companies and individuals are currently participating and over 2,500 samples have been collected so far representing 31 species. Further details on new distribution records, dispersal flight activity, and future research will be discussed.
