Comparative efficacy of noviflumuron and hexaflumuron on eastern subterranean termites in different laboratory test protocols

Ed King and Amy Griffin. Dow AgroSciences, 9330 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, IN

This poster discusses some of the different objectives and test variables that have been considered for laboratory efficacy research on subterranean termites with the chitin synthesis inhibitors (CSI’s) noviflumuron and hexaflumuron. Factors such as feeding exposure duration, food choices (forced-feeding vs. choice test) and environmental conditions can significantly influence the outcome of an oral ingestion bait bioassay. However, under different testing regimes on eastern subterranean termites we have consistently found noviflumuron to be significantly more efficacious, faster acting and robust than hexaflumuron when tested at the labeled 0.5% bait concentration.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Reticulitermes flavipes (Eastern subterranean termite)
Keywords: Noviflumuron, Sentricon
