Evaluation of a remote data aquisition (RDA) fumiscope for monitoring fumigations conducted with Vikane® gas fumigant

Ellen Thoms1, Larry Witt2, Eric Hobelmann1, and Sean Brantley3. (1) Dow AgroSciences, 7257 NW 4th Blvd. #20, Gainesville, FL, (2) Key Chemical and Equipment Company, Unit A, 13195 49th St North, Clearwater, FL, (3) Emory Brantley and Sons Termite and Pest Control, 6587 66 Ave. N, Pinellas Park, FL

Performance of five prototype RDA Fumiscopes (Key Chemical and Equipment Co.) were compared to that of two Model D Fumiscopes in a 1000 cubic foot fumigation chamber. Concentrations of Vikane gas fumigant (Dow AgroSciences, Indianapolis, IN) ranging from 15 – 125 oz/MCF and sampling hose lengths of 100-400 feet were evaluated. The readings of the RDA Fumiscopes were not significantly different from those of the Model D Fumiscopes for all tested concentrations of Vikane. Sampling hose length up to 400 feet did not affect readings of the RDA Fumiscope.
