Isomate-®C TT is a new passive release pheromone dispenser from Pacific Biocontrol Corporation used for codling moth (Cydia pomonela Linnaeus) mating disruption. The dispenser utilizes two tubes of pheromone on one dispenser which increases the release rate per dispenser and makes it easier to apply than the standard Isomate®-C Plus dispenser. Label rate for Isomate®-C Plus is 400 dispensers per acre. Most growers in Washington State use varying rates from 200-400 due to labor issues and economics. Since Isomate®-C TT has roughly twice the release rate than that of Isomate®-C Plus, the label rate is 200 dispensers per acre. This brings up the issue of point sources verses release rate and which is more important in field conditions. Although much research has been done to determine release rates and longevity of different dispensers for mating disruption, it is still unknown how many point sources are needed to achieve adequate levels of control in orchard environments given different dispensing mechanisms.
