The role of dealation and juvenile hormone titer in the Formosan subterranean termite: Does dealation influence JH titer?

Yong Ihl Park, Ashok K. Raina, and Alan R. Lax. USDA-ARS-SRRC, FSTRU, 1100 Robert E. Lee Blvd, New Orleans, LA

In the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, dispersal flights are observed between late April and late June in New Orleans, Louisiana. After the swarming, alates shed their wings and initiate tandem running until they find a suitable nest site. Data on changes in body weight, JH titer and fecundity are discussed in relation to dealation.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Coptotermes formosanus (Formosan subterranean termite)
Keywords: Reproduction, Primary reproductives
