Genetic characterization of Coptotermes formosanus (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) infestation in Atlanta, Georgia

Tracie M. Jenkins and Brian T. Forschler. University of Georgia, Department of Entomology, 1109 Experiment Street, Griffin, GA

We evaluate the genetic variation and gene flow of Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) in the Atlanta, Georgia metropolitan area using haploid cytochrome oxidase subunit II sequence and diploid DNA fingerprint technology. We discuss these results in light of past research as well as their implications for Formosan termite expansion and adaptation in the Atlanta area.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Coptotermes formosanus (Formosan subterranean termite)
Keywords: genetic characterization
