Genetic characterization of Reticulitermes flavipes (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) from multiple ecological sites in Georgia, USA

Tracie M. Jenkins, The University of Georgia, College of Agricultural and Environmental Science, Department of Entomology, 1109 Experiment Street, Griffin, GA and Brian T. Forschler, University of Georgia, Department of Entomology, Athens, GA.

Individual Reticulitermes flavipes workers were collected from sites in two different ecological regions in the state of Georgia, USA. Individual termite DNA Fingerprints and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) sequence was determined. Molecular data was then analyzed for genetic variation and gene flow. These results are discussed in light of baseline data collected from inbred laboratory colonies and mitochodnrial DNA surveys respectively.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Reticulitermes flavipes (Eastern Subterranean Termite)
Keywords: mitochondrial DNA
