J. Victor French, Citrus Center, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, Citrus Center, 312 N. International Blvd, Weslaco, TX

In September 2001, the presence of the Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphornia citri Kuwayama (Homoptera: Psyllidae) in Texas was confirmed. It was found on nursery citrus seedlings and on an orange jessamine (Murraya paniculata) hedge. It has subsequently spread into other nurseries and commercial citrus orchards throughout the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas. D.citri is a very effecient vector of the serious bacterial disease of citrus, Huanglongbing (HLB) or greening disease.
