The geographic distribution of Varroa destructor Anderson and Trueman, 2000 (Acari: Varroidae) and V. jacobsoni Oudemans, 1904 was investigated, using. 74 samples of Varroa mites collected from Apis cerana Fabricius, 1793 nests along a transect from north to south of Thailand. Mites were assigned to species by sequencing the mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase I gene, or by the use of characteristic restriction site polymorphisms. One haplotype of V. destructor (Vietnam haplotype) and four haplotypes of V. jacobsoni (Malysia, NorthThai1, NorthThai2, and Samui1 haplotypes) were found in Thailand. V. destructor (Vietnam haplotype) were restricted to the mountain region of Northern Thailand, while V. jacobsoni samples with NorthThai1 haplotype and few samples of NorthThai2 haplotype were distributed in the north and central regions, and in part of the peninsular region of Thailand. The Malaysia haplotype of V. jacobsoni was found in the south of the peninsula Thailand, and the Samui1 haplotype was found on Samui Island. The correlation between the distributions of the four haplotypes of V. jacobsoni in Thailand and the distribution of different mitochondrial lineages of their native host, A. cerana is discussed.
