Sixty years of European corn borer in Illinois: from invasion to transgenic control

Charles Guse and David W. Onstad. University of Illinois, Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, 69 Natural Resources Building, Champaign, IL

Surveys of European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis) density have been conducted in Illinois for approximately 60 years. Annual population densities were analyzed using standard statistical and geostatistical techniques to identify potential causal relationships and possible geospatial infestation patterns. The economics of transgenic corn was evaluated with respect to historical infestations.

Species 1: Lepidoptera Crambidae Ostrinia nubilalis (European corn borer)
Keywords: transgenic corn, geostatistics
