Marc A. Branham, Division of Invertebrate Zoology, American Museum of Natural History, Division of Invertebrate Zoology, Central Park West at 79th Street, New York, NY

A fossilized firefly larva from Dominican amber represents the oldest known from the family Lampyridae. The morphological characters of this unique specimen are discussed in relation to the morphological variation of the known larvae in the family with similarites highlighted. The morphological similarites with extant species will then be used to address the possible geographic regions of origin for this species.

Species 1: Coleoptera Lampyridae (firefly, lightening bug)
Keywords: bioluminescence, larva
