Microstructure and possible functions of the oothecal chorion in German cockroach (Blattella germanica L.)

D. E. Mullins and K. June Mullins. Virginia Tech, Department of Entomology, 319 Price Hall, Blacksburg, VA

Although the general structure of the German cockroach oothecae has been described previously, there is little information on its microanatomy. Using light and electron microscopy, we have constructed a three dimensional microanatomical model of the oothecal chorion. Possible physiological functions of the structural features are proposed.

Species 1: Blattaria Blattellidae Blattella germanica (German cockroach)
Keywords: oothecae, chorion
