Initiation of dogwood borer infestation of newly planted apple orchards

Characteristics of apple trees on EMLA 26 and EMLA 7 rootstock including cultivar, location within orchard, number and size of burr knots below the graft union, height of graft union, presence or absence of tree guards, and presence or absence of mounded soil were recorded at two newly planted orchards in West Virginia and Virginia. Graft unions and all burr knots on each tree within both orchards were sampled at monthly intervals for presence or absence of dogwood borer larval infestation.
