Nitric oxide synthase in the saliva of Helicoverpa zea

NO, as a signal molecule, can be formed from L-arginine by NO synthase. There are several isoforms of NOS, which serve as different functions. The one we found in caterpillar¢s saliva may have a defensive function during the interactions of herbivores and plants.
