The life-history of dogwood borer in mid-Atlantic apple orchards was studied using measurements of the abundance of pupal exuvia, the number of male moths captured in pheromone traps, and the distribution of life-stages of dogwood borer collected from apple burr knot tissue at regular intervals throughout the growing season. The data provide evidence for bivoltinism of dogwood borer in mid-Atlantic apple plantings. A comparison of pheromone lures marketed for capturing male dogwood borer revealed significant differences in their effectiveness for monitoring this species.

Species 1: Lepidoptera Sesiidae Synanthedon scitula (dogwood borer)
Keywords: voltinism, monitoring
