Proposed changes in the agricultural uses of Lorsban: Label improvement to improve product stewardship

William H. Hendrix and Michael C. Shaw. Dow AgroSciences, 9330 Zionsville Road, Indianapolis, IN

During chlorpyrifos reregistration, Dow AgroSciences focused on a label improvement program that addressed environmental health and safety concerns of agricultural use. It addition, labeling that better reflects how Lorsban products are used in today's agriculture was desired. Tiered risk assessment methods and stakeholder surveys to validate assumptions were used to craft new labels. The proposed labels are codified into an user-friendlier format that enhances product stewardship by mitigating out dated uses, modernizing Personal Protection Equipment standards and implementing environmental best management practices. These changes represent a significant benefit for end-users because critical uses were preserved while meeting new regulatory standards.
