Africanized and European honey bee larval stages were challenged with American foulbrood presented to honey bee larvae at <24h and <48h post hatching. Known concentrations of spores, ingested in a royal jelly diet preparation, were used. The differential response of the two bee types to infestation, and implications for future research, are discussed.

Species 1: Hymenoptera Apidae Apis mellifera (honey bee)
Species 2: Paenibacillus larvae (American foulbrood)
Keywords: AFB disease
