First report of Rogenhofera dasypoda (Diptera: Cuterebridae) parasitizing Akodon serrensis (Rodentia: Cricetidae)

David E. P. Bossi and Aricio X Linhares. Campinas State University, Department of Parasitology, Institute of Biology, Caixa Postal 6109, Campinas - SP, Brazil

During a survey of ectoparasites of small mammals of a rain forest in the southeastern Brazil, two larvae of Rogenhofera dasypoda (Diptera: Cuterebridae) were found parasitizing two adult males of Akodon serrensis (Rodentia: Cricetidae) at the "Parque Nacional da Serra da Bocaina", São José do Barreiro, São Paulo State, Brazil, located approximately 1200 m above sea level. The hosts were collected using Sherman® live traps. The parasitized hosts were taken to the laboratory, to allow the larvae to leave the hosts to pupate. The larvae pupated immediately after leaving the host and the pupae were placed in moist leaf litter. The first adult emerged after 64 days and the other after 67 days at environment temperature.
