Approaches for IPM of imported fire ants in lawns and neighborhoods

Bart Drees, Texas A&M, Dept. of Entomology, College Station, TX

Program approaches developed and promoted for managing imported fire ants in lawns and neighborhoods include the "Two-Step Method", individual mound treatments, only, and the "Ant Elimination Method". These programs, or a combination of these programs, can be implemented in specific sites to reduce or eliminate imported fire ant problems. Benefits from managing fire ants on a larger scale, such as in a neighborhood or community, have now been documented. New products, product combinations, and the integration of biological control methods continue to provide improve these methods of fire ant management.
