Total release aerosols for consumer use

Keith Kennedy and Richard Wadleigh. SC Johnson, Product Development, 1525 Howe St, Racine, WI

Total release aerosols, also known as indoor foggers or ‘bombs’, use aerosol propellent or other means to distribute insecticides to control cockroaches, ants, fleas, spiders and other pests. Fogger sales comprise approximately 15% of the total household (indoor) insecticide market and they remain an important pest control tool for homeowners. In this talk, we will review the use of foggers from the technical, consumer, and marketing perspective. The topics to be covered will include the types of foggers and their usage, efficacy, active ingredients, consumer habits and practices, marketing trends, and a discussion of health and safety issues. The future viability of foggers as a consumer pest control tool will also be discussed
