The entomological collection of the Centro de Estudios en Zoología, Universidad de Guadalajara is one of the youngest entomological collection in México. Their activities as entomological collection start in early 1995, and include: 1) Field work, primarily in Jalisco (localities with different environmental conditions), but also in other Mexican states and few other countries (Brazil and Costa Rica). Fieldwork in Jalisco include several places, some of them recognized as localities with high diversity, such as: Sierra de Manantlán, Volcán Nevado de Colima, Volcán de Tequila and others. 2) Research. At this moment, mostly inventories and description of new species, focused on bees, beetles and butterflies, and 3) Education. As part of the Universidad de Guadalajara, several activities are related with education. Members of the collection teach courses on arthropods, insects and biosystematics. Exhibitions in public places and conferences for a general audience are also provided. 4) Publication of the journal Dugesiana. This journal was published by the first time in December 1994. Until now, 8 volumes (two issues by volume, except volume one) are published, including papers devoted to different groups of arthropods, but predominantly beetles.

There are more than 12,000 pinned specimens belonging to more than 100 families and 900 species, plus thousands of specimens preserved in alcohol. There are three primary types and more than 500 paratypes. Families well represented are: Apidae, Formicidae, Scarabaeidae and Staphylinidae. In this paper we describe briefly the activities and importance of this young but very active Mexican entomological collection.
