The sixth major account of pesticide use in North Dakota field crops was completed for the 2000 cropping season. The information was derived from a comprehensive survey of North Dakota farm operators. Pesticide use information was gathered at the farm enterprise level. The survey was designed by NDSU Extension, ND Department of Agriculture, and ND Agricultural Statistics Service. Surveys of 3500 operators were conducted by phone interview. Information was collected for pesticide use data for crops, including wheat, barley, oat, flax, corn, sunflower, dry bean, canola, soybean, and others. Usage data included acres seeded, seed treatment usage, and acres treated by crop for the major pesticide categories of insecticides, herbicides , and fungicides. The insecticide use information is summarized and discussed in relation to usage trends by active ingredient for individual crops.
