Jerome F. Grant and Paris L. Lambdin. The University of Tennessee, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, 205 Ellington Plant Sciences Building, Knoxville, TN

A one-week workshop titled “Insects in the Classroom” was sponsored by the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professional Development Grants Program, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, and The University of Tennessee College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. This workshop targeted K-4 teachers in five rural counties in eastern Tennessee - these counties are traditionally classified as underserved and underprivileged. The overall goals of this workshop were to: 1) improve attitudes about insects, 2) enhance skills to better integrate insects into classroom activities, 3) expand knowledge about insects, and 4) increase confidence levels of teachers. Workshop activities, accomplishments, etc. will be presented.
