Yellow pyramid traps baited with Euschistus spp. pheromone may replace limb jarring for monitoring brown stink bugs in peach. In 2001, an insect pest management program was demonstrated in four Arkansas peach orchards. Four yellow pyramid traps were placed individually under peach trees at 30m intervals in the wooded perimeter of each orchard. Weekly or biweekly, rubber septum each charged with 50ul methyl 2,4-decadiendate replaced, and the numbers of brown stink bugs per trap and per limb jarring were recorded. Brown stink bug population levels in peach trees exceeded the threshold of 1 stink bug per limb jarring only on 19 April, 9 and 19 June and insecticide applications were recommended to growers. The corresponding weekly counts from the yellow pyramid traps were > 60 stink bugs. The trap to limb jarring ratio of the number of stink bugs was 60:1. The tentative trap economic threshold to be tested in 2002 will be 60 brown stink bugs per pyramid trap per week.
