We determined that monitoring fall armyworm with 4-component commercial pheromone lures is confounded by non-target captures of the second generation of Leucania phragmatidicola in Pennsylvania. We evaluated lures over 2 field seasons to determine a lure that provides good capture of fall armyworm while avoiding this non-target species. We found lures that improved catch specificity by removing one pheromonal component from the 4-component commercial lures.

Species 1: Lepidoptera Noctuidae Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm)
Species 2: Lepidoptera Noctuidae Leucania phragmatidicola
