Coccinellidae (Coleoptera) collected in Cedrela odorata L. foliage in localities of Tamaulipas, México

Cedrela odorata is an important species of tropical tree because the wood is used mainly for furniture and it has a high price, and because its role in the tropical forest. It is distributed in Mexico, Central and South America. In Tamaulipas, Mexico, red cedar is being planted in Central - South areas of the State. Many insects live in this high tree. In this study ladybeetles were collected with nets in localities of 7 municipalities, in the period January 2000 -May 2001. Sixteen species were obtained, 13 genera were represented, being Stethorus the most common, followed by Cryptognatha and Nephus. The Stethorus species have been observed attacking the spider mite Tetranychus urticae that is common in different areas of Tamaulipas. The other genera collected were Cycloneda, Hippodamia, Olla, Brachiacantha, Chilocorus, Scymnus, Hyperaspis, Psyllobora, Exochomus, Diomus and Zagloba.
