Diapause-associated gene expression in the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata

Diapause-associated gene expression in the Colorado potato beetle was investigated using suppression subtractive hybridization. Of 150 isolated clones, 49 were shown to be diapause upregulated by differential screening. Insert sizes for these clones range from about 150 to 400 bps. Northern blot analysis and sequence data revealed that the clones fall within five groups. The first group of 35 clones was identified as the Colorado potato beetle storage protein, DP-1. The second group of six clones had sequence identity to the 28kDa desiccation protein of Tenebrio molitor. In the third group the six clones were all exact duplicates with no known identity. Single clones with no known identity make up groups four and five.
