The Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle(MALB), Harmonia axyridis, was introduced into the US to serve as a biological control agent in various agricultural systems. With populations now established in many part of the US, the MALB has proven to be highly effective at controlling aphids and other soft bodied insect pests. However, due to the insect's habit of aggregating in very large numbers in the autumn on and in houses and buidlings in search of overwintering sites, the MALB has become a serious nuisance pest. The nature and distribution of the nuisance problem in Ohio was determined by a statewide survey that was conducted by the Ohio State University Integrated Pest Management Program.
