Evaluation of arthropod populations in response to differing tillage and rotation practices

A. Michal Roberts and Gerald E. Wilde. Kansas State University, Department of Entomology, 123 Waters Hall, Manhattan, KS

Three test sites were established in Kansas in 2001 to evaluate the effects of differing tillage and rotation practices on both target and non-target arthropod populations. Arthropods were sampled from three distinct niches in each field. The above ground fauna was sampled using standard crop specific sampling techniques, ground dwelling fauna was monitored through pitfall trap sampling and the below ground fauna was assessed by using a Tullgren-type soil extraction method. Each plot was monitored throughout the growing season.
