The effect of environmental chemicals on subterranean termite foraging activity

Lois E. Swoboda and Dini Miller. Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University, Dodson Urban Pest Management Laboratory, 216 Price Hall, Blacksburg, VA

Laboratory bioassays were conducted to determine the efficacy of wood degredation products (alcohols, lignins) as attractants, arrestants or feedants for the eastern subterranean termite, Reticulitermes flavipes Kollar. Several wood degradation products were found to have specific effects on subterranean termite behavior.

Species 1: Isoptera Rhinotermitidae Reticulitermes flavipes (Subterranean termites)
Keywords: arrestants, wood degradation products
