Seasonal biology and management of rust mites on conifers

The seasonal biology of several species of eriophyoid mites noted to attack coniferous plants in the landscape were tracked over a two year period. The effectiveness horticultural oil sprays as a management method was also investigated. The presence and abundance of natural enemy arthropods were also noted during the study.

Species 1: Acari Eriophyidae Epitrimerus taxodii (baldcypress rust mite)
Species 2: Acari Eriophyidae Setoptus strobacus (white pine sheath mite)
