Laboratory and field studies using liquid toxicants for red imported fire ants

Les Greenberg and Mike Rust. University of California, Department of Entomology, University of California, Riverside, CA

We have evaluated the efficacy of boric acid, fipronil, imidacloprid, and thiomethoxam, in sugar water solutions for red imported fire ants. LT 50s for isolated workers and for colony fragments were determined in the laboratory. Some solutions were also field-tested in bait stations. The materials were tested over 5 or 6 different concentrations of active ingredients. Palatability tests were also done.

Species 1: Hymenoptera Formicidae Solenopsis invicta
Species 3: (red imported fire ant)
Keywords: liquid toxicants, bait stations
