Afrobrianax, a new genus of the sumfamily Eubrianacinae, comprises all species in Africa. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that this genus should be a sister group of Mubrianax based on similarity of their pupae and adults, despite larvae of Afrobrianax is very similar to that of Eubrianax. This analysis alos implies that most of larval characters might be homoplastic for Afroeubriax and Eubrianax due to adaptaion to similar environments.
