Alternative antibiotics for the control of American foulbrood disease of honey bees

Since resistance of the causative organism of American foulbrood disease to oxytetracycline is becoming widespread in the United States, we began a search for effective alternative antibiotics. We screened 27 antibiotics using a microbiological assay and field tested two of the most active for toxicity to honey bees and efficacy against American Foulbrood.
