Marianne Alleyne , Department of Entomology, University of Illinois, Urbana, IL
Dr. Marianne Alleyne has used her blog (insectsdiditfirst.com) and presence on social media to become a more effective instructor in the classroom and online. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on insect physiology and bioinspiration - the latter course is also offered as a MOOC through Coursera. Her science communication efforts are designed primarily to promote insects, as well as science literacy and science policy. Here she will discuss how she sees science communication by academics benefiting our students and our research, and thus the future of the field of entomology.
