The effectiveness of two commercial bed bug monitors (NightWatch and CDC3000) and a home-made pitfall trap was evaluated in the laboratory and in bed bug infested apartments. In laboratory assays, the three devices captured 38-46% of the bed bugs from the experimental arenas overnight. All three devices can detect the presence of C. lectularius in infested apartments with low numbers of bed bugs. Dry ice baited pitfall trap was more effective than NightWatch and CDC3000 in estimating bed bug numbers.
