Potential sources of host plant resistance to codling moth have been evaluated among apple and crabapple germplasm. In particular, one resistant species exhibits increased expression of a number of fruit phenolics. Codling moth response was evaluated for a number of fruit phenolics expressed in apple and crabapple to evaluate their potential roles in the observed resistance.
