The fauna of phytotelmata was investigated on Springfield Plantation on the island of Dominica. Emergence traps were used to collect adult specimens of aquatic insects from coconuts, Heliconia caribaea inflorescences, bamboo internodes and bromeliads. A siphon and pipette were used to remove water samples from plants and immature aquatic insects were then hand collected. A total of 824 individuals representing a minimum of 45 morphospecies of arthropods were collected from tree holes, leaf axils, flower parts, fruit husks and fallen plant parts on the island of Dominica. Diptera accounted for a total of 14 of the 24 hexapod families, with the inflorescence bracts of Heliconia caribaea containing 9 dipteran families. More investigations of the life history, taxonomy, and ecology of the fauna of phytotelmata on the island of Dominica are warranted.
