Oklahoma State University regional structural and urban pest education facility

Kevin T. Shelton, Brad Kard, and Jim T. Criswell. Oklahoma State University, Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, 127 Noble Research Center, Stillwater, OK

The need to progressively improve urban pest management training for state regulatory officials, pest management professionals, and extension educators has led to the development and implementation of a limited number of university-based training schools in the United States. The goal of the Oklahoma State University Regional Structural and Urban Pest Education Facility is to provide classroom training in conjunction with hands-on field training in relation to subterranean termite management under a variety of standard building construction practices found in Oklahoma and contiguous states. A wide variety of building wall and foundation types will be contructed and used to demonstrate and train pest management professionals in proper treating and management techniques for control of subterranean termites. The field facility will be expandable to address new and emerging technologies as they become available. Attendees can earn continuing education units (Category 7b-Structural) for successful completion of the training. A detailed presentation of the facility can be found on the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology web site - http://entoplp@okstate.edu/ve/supef/
